Key Responsibilities

As a Post Office Assistant, you will be entrusted with a variety of important tasks to serve your community effectively:

  • Provide friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable counter service, selling postal products and services to customers.
  • Process customer transactions accurately, handling cash and operating retail systems.
  • Sort, distribute, and organize incoming and outgoing mail into correct classifications.
  • Offer clear information to customers, assisting them with forms, postal rates, and service options.
  • Help resolve customer inquiries and delivery-related issues promptly and thoroughly.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized work area and adhere to all operational and safety procedures.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria to ensure success in this role:

  • A high school diploma or provincial equivalency, and/or relevant experience in business administration or a customer service environment.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with the public in a retail or service capacity, including sales and cash handling.
  • Must be physically fit to lift mail containers up to 50 lb, sort mail while standing for extended periods, and push or pull boxes as needed.
  • Flexibility: Must be available for temporary, on-call work assignments as required. Residency within the community or a 50 km radius is strongly preferred.
  • Language: Bilingual proficiency (English and French) is imperative for this position.
  • Other: An understanding of basic accounting systems is beneficial. Selected candidates must complete a security screening process.
