Key Responsibilities
As the Power Plant Electrician, you will be the cornerstone of electrical reliability for the station. Your responsibilities encompass safety, maintenance, and operations:
- Maintaining the highest priority on workplace safety, ensuring compliance with all Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) programs.
- Performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on all power generation electrical systems, including switchgear, generators, control circuits, and safety systems.
- Monitoring power generation operations to ensure efficient and economical performance, and responding immediately to outages or equipment failures.
- Accurately documenting all maintenance performed in logs and records, and maintaining a high-accuracy inventory of tools and parts.
- Training Power Plant Operators and Mechanics on equipment and procedures as directed.
- Working rotating shifts (day, swing, night) and being available for emergency call-outs.
- Interpreting complex design drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Participating in the communal life of the remote station, including dormitory chores and station clean-up duties.
Qualifications
This is a rigorous role with non-negotiable requirements for safety and capability. You must have:
- A High School diploma or GED.
- A current, valid Journeyman or Master Electrician license (not of a Residential type, requiring less than 8,000 hours) or equivalent Union standing.
- A minimum of four years (8,000 hours) of documented electrical experience, with at least two years specifically in power distribution wiring, switchgear, and control panel maintenance.
- Thorough knowledge of diesel engine-driven generators, hazards, and safety protocols.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance and successfully pass rigorous medical, dental, drug, and background screenings required for Antarctic deployment.
- U.S. Citizenship is mandatory for facility credentials.
