About Australia Zoo and Our Team

At Australia Zoo, our mission is about more than just animals; it’s about creating exceptional environments for them and our visitors. Our Construction and Maintenance department is the backbone of this effort, responsible for everything from building new habitats to maintaining our vast array of buildings and public spaces. As a Painter here, you’ll join a team of skilled tradespeople and labourers, reporting to the Projects Carpenter and working alongside an experienced crew dedicated to high standards and safety in a truly unique workplace.

 Your Key Responsibilities

Your expertise will be applied across the zoo’s diverse infrastructure. Your main duties will be to:

  • Prepare and paint a wide variety of surfaces as part of our planned maintenance cycle, including walls, ceilings, fences, masonry, and steelwork on both new and existing structures.
  • Perform minor plastering and rendering repairs to ensure surfaces are perfect before painting.
  • Apply a sound knowledge of modern painting systems, products, and techniques to achieve durable, high-quality finishes.
  • Calculate the quantity of materials required for each job and assist with general site and equipment cleaning.
  • Work strictly within all health and safety procedures, contributing to a safe environment for staff, visitors, and our animals.
  • Assist with safety checks and perform any other duties as requested by senior management to support the team’s goals.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

We are looking for a practical, reliable professional who meets our essential criteria:

  • A current construction White Card.
  • A current manual Australian driver’s licence.
  • Full availability to work weekends, public holidays, and during school holiday periods.
  • Proven experience as a painter, with a demonstrated ability to work to a high standard.
  • A great work ethic and the ability to work effectively as part of a close-knit, high-performance team.
  • The physical fitness and adaptability for a role that is both demanding and varied.

Trade qualifications or specialised certificates are highly regarded but not mandatory. We value demonstrated skill and a positive, can-do attitude above all.
