Labourer
Responsibilities
As a Labourer, you’ll keep the recycling yard humming with a range of hands-on tasks:
- Sorting, baling, and packing metals and materials for processing.
- Helping load and unload shipments from trucks, trailers, or bins.
- Teaming up with yard inspectors and operators to keep traffic moving and avoid holdups.
- Using handheld radios to stay in touch with the scale team and manage tasks.
- Checking and grading metals to make sure they meet quality standards.
- Lending a hand in the nonferrous warehouse, sorting inventory, and keeping it organized.
- Keeping the yard clean to ensure safe and smooth operations.
- Following safety rules around heavy equipment to keep everyone safe.
- Working in all weather, from hot summer days to Winnipeg’s cold winters.
- Taking on extra tasks to help the yard stay on track.
Requirements
Education
You’ll need a high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
No recycling or yard experience is required. If you’ve got 1-2 years in physical jobs, that’s helpful but not necessary.
Skills
- Quick to learn and follow instructions on the job.
- Strong enough to stand, walk, lift, and push/pull up to 50 pounds all day.
- Clear and friendly when talking or writing to teammates and supervisors.
- Able to fit into a busy, team-focused yard setting.
- Flexible to handle changing weather and shift schedules.
Knowledge
- A basic sense of staying safe in physical jobs.
- Some awareness of sorting or grading materials is useful, but not needed.
- Familiarity with staying safe around heavy equipment.
- Mechanically inclined or open to learning basic equipment use.
- Understanding of teamwork in fast-paced settings.
Other
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Strong English skills, both written and spoken.
