We’re looking for a full-time Laundry Manager to take the reins at our small commercial laundry in Mitchell. This isn’t a behind-the-desk role you’ll be hands-on, managing daily operations, leading a team of nine staff plus a driver, and making sure everything runs smoothly. The laundry services three Capital Hotels in Canberra and operates four days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday), with hours from 6am to 4pm on most days. Where You’ll Be Working
We’re a small but busy commercial laundry in Mitchell, servicing three hotels in Canberra. The operation runs like clockwork—Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are full production days from 6am to 4pm, while Thursdays are more flexible, focused on cleaning and light maintenance. We don’t operate on public holidays, adjusting to alternate days when needed. Nine staff are rostered each day plus a delivery driver, so you’ll be leading a solid team in a focused, fast-paced environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Hands-on management of daily operations: You’ll be on the floor making sure every step washing, drying, ironing, folding, and distribution—runs efficiently and meets quality standards.
- Leading and mentoring staff:Â You’ll train, guide, and manage a team of nine laundry workers plus the driver, making sure everyone understands their roles and follows company policies.
- Scheduling and timesheets:Â You’ll handle staff shifts, finalize timesheets, and ensure compliance with awards and company policies.
- Managing inventory:Â Keeping track of laundry consumables, spare parts, and equipment, ordering replacements before you run out.
- Maintaining equipment:Â Monitoring performance, scheduling regular maintenance, and handling basic troubleshooting to prevent downtime.
- Ensuring health and safety:Â Managing WHS requirements, risk assessments, incident reporting, evacuation procedures, and chemical handling compliance. You’ll make sure staff are trained and safe.
- Addressing customer issues:Â When problems come up, you’ll handle them quickly and professionally to keep satisfaction high.
- Keeping the facility organized:Â Cleanliness and order in the laundry matter you’ll make sure everything is where it should be.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience as a Laundry Manager or similar role. You know how a commercial laundry runs and what it takes to keep it moving.
- Strong knowledge of laundry equipment:Â Operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. When something breaks, you should know what to check first.
- Excellent leadership and people skills:Â You’ll be managing a team, so the ability to train, mentor, and communicate clearly is essential.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail:Â Schedules, inventory, quality checks nothing slips through the cracks.
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure:Â Laundry days can get busy, and you’ll need to prioritize effectively.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations, especially around chemical handling and laundry operations.
- Physical stamina:Â You’ll be on your feet for extended periods, moving through the facility and handling tasks alongside your team.
- Flexibility to work full-time hours over four longer days per week (generally Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday).
- First Aid Certificate is required.
- Certification in laundry operations is a plus, but not mandatory if you have the experience.
