Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, maintain, and tear down program locations as needed, ensuring all areas are ready for camp activities.
  • Deliver program supplies to designated areas and ensure all items are returned to proper storage after use.
  • Assist with program leadership as needed, supporting camp staff in delivering engaging and safe activities.
  • Manage all sweet shop operations, including opening and closing the shop, cleaning machines, emptying trash, restocking shelves, and mopping floors.
  • Assist with camper registration by collecting funds to open sweet shop accounts and securing collected funds in the safe after each free time.
  • Manage all sweet shop accounts, maintaining accurate records of transactions and balances.
  • Inventory supplies daily, reporting any needed items to the designated supervisor.
  • Prepare camper refunds at the end of each camp session and distribute them to Corps Officers or leaders at camper check out.
  • Report any staff or maintenance problems to the supervisor promptly.
  • Work on projects assigned by the supervisor, contributing to overall camp operations.
  • Be present at all meals, meetings, and programs unless otherwise directed.
  • Provide spiritual direction to campers as needed, embodying the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by communicating professionally and fostering good relationships with clients, co workers, and supervisors.

Qualifications

Candidates must be at least 16 years of age. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, along with previous experience working with youth or in a community center setting. Good communication skills, the ability to read and write well, and the ability to relate well with children and youth are essential. A valid driver’s license, including an E license to transport children, and the ability to pass a motor vehicle record check are a plus. Candidates must be certified by the American Red Cross in CPR and First Aid or be willing to obtain certification.

Physical and Working Conditions

Candidates must be capable of participating in camp activities, which may include working outdoors in the heat. The role requires frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds, with the ability to move 50 or more pounds using a dolly, cart, or truck. Physical stamina and a willingness to stay active throughout the day are important.
