Key Responsibilities

As an Electrical-Electronic Technician, you will perform a diverse range of technical tasks to maintain county infrastructure. Your core duties will include:

  • Performing bench and field maintenance, repair, and installation of traffic signal systems, street lighting, airport beacons, and facility electrical systems.
  • Implementing and adjusting traffic signal timing and synchronization programming.
  • Reading and interpreting schematics, construction plans, blueprints, and maintenance manuals.
  • Installing and maintaining underground and aerial electrical systems, and isolating problems through circuit analysis.
  • Assisting in or independently performing inspections of electrical construction projects.
  • Maintaining manual and computerized records of equipment, maintenance, and signal timing.
  • Investigating complaints and responding to reports of traffic signal malfunctions, which may require on-call response.
  • Operating shop test equipment and guiding the work of lower-level technicians as assigned.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with significant, verifiable electrical experience. The employment standards are:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, AND completion of an electrical apprenticeship program OR three (3) years of experience as an Electrical-Electronic Assistant with Santa Clara County with demonstrated troubleshooting and installation skills.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License prior to appointment. Must obtain a California Class B Driver’s License with an air brake endorsement within six (6) months of employment.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical-electronic theory, construction inspection principles, relevant laws-regulations, and occupational safety hazards.
  •  Ability to read blueprints, test and repair equipment, prepare reports, work in all weather conditions and at heights exceeding 50 feet, and perform circuit analysis.
  • Willingness to work odd/irregular hours and be subject to 24-hour on-call response.
