Key Responsibilities

As a Leading Hand, you will be the on-ground leader ensuring the safe and efficient execution of drill and blast operations. Your core duties will include:

  • Leading and supervising drill and blast crews on a daily basis, providing clear direction and on-the-job mentoring.
  • Ensuring all drilling, charging, stemming, and firing activities strictly comply with site-specific procedures and safety standards.
  • Coordinating drilling patterns and blasting activities in liaison with Site Managers and Supervisors.
  • Conducting pre-start meetings and toolbox talks to reinforce safety and operational goals.
  • Monitoring crew productivity, assisting with planning, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensuring all required reporting, documentation, and site statistics are completed accurately and on time.

Qualifications

To be successful in this hands-on leadership role, you will need:

  • Essential Experience: Proven experience in drill and blast operations within the mining industry and previous experience as a Leading Hand on a mine site.
  • Essential Credentials: A valid Driver’s Licence and a current S26 Supervisor Qualification (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Essential Attributes: A strong, demonstrable safety focus and excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Highly Desired: Dyno Digishot Certification and RIO Tinto site induction.
  • Mindset: A proactive, responsible approach and the ability to thrive in a FIFO environment.
