Key Responsibilities
As a Maintenance Worker, you will perform essential duties to keep our roadways and facilities in top condition. Your daily work will be vital to public safety and may include:
- Maintaining highways by patching potholes, filling cracks, clearing brush, and removing debris from roadsides and ditches.
- Setting up and maintaining safe work zones by placing signs, cones, and arrow boards to direct traffic around our crews.
- Operating a variety of vehicles and equipment, such as dump trucks, snowplows, mowers, and loaders, to transport materials and perform maintenance tasks.
- Performing winter and emergency operations, including plowing snow and spreading materials to keep roads safe during inclement weather.
- Assisting with repairs to road signs, guardrails, and other state-owned facilities.
- Potentially working at heights to clean or repair bridge components, following all safety protocols.
Qualifications
We are looking for reliable individuals who are ready to learn and contribute to our team. To be successful, you will need:
- A high school diploma or GED-HiSET.
- A valid driver’s license. Applicants with a valid Class A or B Missouri Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) are preferred.
- The ability to pass the written CDL exam prior to your start date, and the driving portion (Class A or B with tanker endorsement and no air brake restrictions) within 60 days of hire.
- Registration with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
- The physical stamina to perform demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions, including lifting, operating tools, and performing stationary flagging.
- A commitment to safety and the ability to work well as part of a team.
- Willingness to work overtime, nighttime hours, and respond to emergency call-outs as needed.
