The Youth Residential Service (YRS) specifically oversees the secure care and rehabilitation of youths at the Singapore Boys’ Homes, providing a supportive environment for their growth and reintegration.
 Key Responsibilities
As a Youth Guidance Officer, you will play a central role in the daily lives and long-term development of the youths in our care. Your key duties will include:
- Implementing structured daily routines and programmes that promote positive values and habits
- Closely supervising and ensuring the safety and well-being of male youths in a residential setting
- Managing discipline with a balanced approach that combines firmness with care and understanding
- Serving as a positive role model through your speech, attitude, and behavior at all times
- Collaborating with other professionals such as social workers and psychologists to support rehabilitation goals
- Conducting risk assessments and responding appropriately to challenging situations as they arise
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of programmes and procedures within the Homes
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who possess both the qualifications and the personal qualities needed for this demanding yet rewarding role:
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field
- Experience working in institutional settings or with groups of at-risk youths is preferred
- Strong interest and commitment to working with challenging youth populations
- Good physical stamina and ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
- Resilient personality with high emotional stability and stress management capabilities
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain authority while showing empathy
- Must be willing to work shifts and be physically capable of meeting job demands
