Need Welders In New Zealand

WM New Zealand is seeking a skilled Welder to join our Christchurch branch, supporting the maintenance of over 100 trucks across municipal, commercial, and landfill operations. In this permanent, full-time role, you will perform MIG and TIG welding, fabricate custom parts, and repair components to keep our fleet running safely and efficiently. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG and TIG welding on truck frames, bodies, and components.
  • Repair cracks, wear, and damage to truck and unit parts.
  • Fabricate custom panels, reinforcements, and other parts as needed.
  • Coordinate with supervisors to schedule vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist with general vehicle maintenance tasks when required.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work.
  • Ensure all work meets WM New Zealand safety and quality standards.
  • Process job orders and manage maintenance tracking through the CMMS system.
  • Requisition repair parts and consumables as needed.
  • Conduct daily checks of workshop tools and equipment to ensure they are in serviceable condition.

Qualifications

  • NZ Certificate in Welding (Level 4) or equivalent qualification.
  • Automotive background and experience preferred.
  • Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Class 4 driver’s licence is an advantage, or willingness to progress to Class 4.
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and safety awareness.
  • Must be based in New Zealand with a valid work visa, residency, or NZ citizenship.
